The purpose of The Moody Endowment is to provide support to organizations committed to the rehabilitation of individuals suffering from head injuries and related charitable, educational, and scientific activities.
The Moody Endowment is a not-for-profit organization that funds innovative brain injury research and life-changing rehabilitation activities to improve the lives of patients and their families. Through strategic grantmaking activity, we invest in organizations committed to rehabilitation along with scientific research to advance treatment, care, and therapies for survivors of brain injury.
With our philanthropy, we aim to better understand brain injuries and their affects. Not only do we support treatment and cognitive rehabilitation, we also seek to advance the way that rehabilitation is delivered. Fundamentally, we want to help those with disabilities live their best lives.
Founded in 1985, The Moody Endowment has made a profound impact on thousands of individuals living with brain injuries. The Endowment was formed with the intent to support the Transitional Learning Center which, in 2019, was renamed the Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute (Moody Neuro).
The first facility was established in Galveston in order to provide the highest quality of care. With the addition of a post-acute center located in Lubbock, as well as long-term care facilities in Galveston and Lubbock, Moody Neuro now serves patients from Texas and across the nation.
In recent years, the Moody Endowment has expanded its philanthropic focus to include numerous organizations, novel research, and scientific endeavors.
Philanthropist Robert Moody, Sr. is the catalyst behind The Moody Endowment. More than 40 years ago, his son Russell was seriously injured in an auto accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Moody Sr. saw firsthand the lack of brain injury rehabilitation resources and he understood the difference high quality therapies could make.
He immersed himself in learning about neurorehabilitation techniques and strategies developed by the top neurological hospitals, specialists, and rehabilitation centers from around the world.
Today, Moody Neuro is recognized as a pioneer and leader in the field of brain injury neurorehabilitation. Its advancement and successes are inextricably linked to the vision and generosity of Robert Moody, Sr. and his son’s story of courage and determination.
